Japanese Tradition Meets the Art of Coffee

The Hario Kabuto is a high-quality manual coffee grinder inspired by traditional Japanese samurai helmets. Its name and design draw on the kabuto, the distinctive samurai helmet. The focal point is the engraved crest – inspired by the maedate, the decorative ornament on a samurai’s helmet.

The maedate symbolized identity, philosophy, and family tradition. In the Kabuto, this symbol becomes an expression of Hario’s passion for precise coffee preparation.

Thus, the grinder combines Japanese craftsmanship, history, and modern coffee design – for everyone who consciously takes the time to enjoy a good cup of coffee.

Sleek Design Meets Precise Technology

The grinder stands out with its sleek design and the use of very durable, high-quality materials. While the body and collection container are made of lightweight, durable aluminum, a solid wood crank handle ensures a comfortable feel.

At the heart of the grinder is a durable, sharp stainless steel grinding mechanism. Since the click settings can be adjusted over a wide range from very fine to coarse, the Hario Kabuto proves to be a true all-rounder. The sharp stainless steel burrs do not crush the beans but cut them precisely, ensuring a consistent grind. Although the manufacturer recommends it specifically for pour-over methods, it is also suitable for fine grinds such as mocha and espresso.

Espresso (5–7 clicks) & Moka/Bialetti (7–9 clicks)

The grinder works very well for the classic espresso pot or for occasional espresso shots. However, there is one small limitation: If you want to perfectly balance your espresso from a portafilter every day and adjust the grind size to account for even the slightest variations in the beans, you’ll reach the limits of the preset click settings. The lack of stepless adjustment options prevents such precise “dialing in.”

Pour-Over & Filter Coffee (Metal and Cloth Filters: 5–13 clicks / Paper Filter: 13–25 clicks)

This is where the grinder really shines, as a consistent grind is essential for a clear, balanced filter coffee.

French Press, Siphon & Cupping (13–25 clicks)

Even the coarser grind sizes for immersion methods can be adjusted consistently and reliably.

The Hario Kabuto is ideal for filter coffee lovers (pour-over, French press, etc.) and anyone who values high-quality design and durable materials.
